Miners Pension Scheme

Started by: PeterP (11372)

Before 1975 miners paid 20pence into their pension scheme. From 1975 payments where based on your earnings with British Coal also contributing to the scheme. In 1994 the BC contribution was taken over by the Government and with a agreement with the Miners Pension Trustees a guarantee was formed that the miners would get 50% of any profit in their pension. The investments took off and 50% was given to the MPS and the other 50% to the Government coffers. Today this investment is worth Millions and people like Whupsy and Handsome are aggrieved that they have been robbed of extra money by the Government. This agreement runs till 2029 with or without the MPS Trustees agreement? I wonder how many other schemes have made the amount of money like the MPS and have a guarantee to pay out the same amount if there had been bad investment and also high inflation impacting investments Maybe its time the Trustees of the MPS NOW put more pressure on the government to change the scheme and get more money for the ex miners.

Many lost out on their private pension schemes besides the miners under both Tory and Labour governments.

Myself included and one of the reasons why I no longer vote to keep policiticians in their cushy number lifestyle of high salaries, allowances and their guranteed pensions.

Derek Dougherty, fitter, is standing as a M.P.S. trustee for this region. I think the ballot is in September.

Why don't they move your pension fund into an offshore tax haven, like the Cayman Islands

Because it's too late TTS , the tories are clever enough to have that one stopped ! For far too many years now the tories have repeatedly dipped their grubby little mits into the fund for othe uses ! G.B.

The miners pension scheme ‘funds’ are not held in a post office savings account book or in isas. They are invested Worldwide.

I Seem to remember some of the M.P.S. funds being used to fund the building of the Galleries shopping centre, maybe a loan or something.

The Miners Pension Fund was by far the largest investor in 'The Galleries Development Company' which built The Galleries it providing 65% of the funding

Bentlegs they invested in a few shopping centre up and down the country. Like all businesses they sell them on has part of their portfolio so only the accountants would know if the MPS made a profit from the Galleries
